There is a sense of beauty, a masculine beauty to the Fir Room. Sitting at one of the table that looks straight towards the bar my first thought was one of my friend will love this place. He will be sat at the bar having a good look at each bottles on the glass shelves and feel a bond of attraction.
The Fir Room is located upstairs of Piquet restaurant, which is conveniently located on Newman street (off Oxford Street). It provides a relaxing environment to have a few drinks and enjoy small plates using seasonal British produce.
We ordered a selection of plates from the menu to share. One of these was thePiquet charcuterie board (£12) consisted of rillette, terrine, ham & coppa, toast & pickles. I thought both the rillette and terrine was full of flavour and went well with the toast.
We could had skipped the Cured Kent fennel sausage (£8.50), as it came as part of the Piquet charcuterie board.
Cured salmon served with buckwheat blini and creme fraiche (£10) looked very small on a very large plate. There was nothing special about the dish and I felt there were other dishes that would had been more worth spending.
One of my favourite dish of the evening has to be the Croquette of pigs head served with sauce gribiche (£5).
Casserole of monkfish, baby quid, chorizo, haricot blanc (£9.50) is another nice dish that we had on the menu.
Beer battered haddock & hand cut chips served with tarte sauce and a wedge of lemon (£10) is one of the larger plates on the menu which you could have for yourself or share like we did. The fish was nicely cooked with it not being too oily and it still being moist inside.
Fillet of sea bream served on a bed of spiced aubergine (£9.50) had a crispy skin but the fish was still moist.
Pork crackling, pickled crab with Espelette pepper (£7.50)
There is a selection of salads on the menu and I thought it was a bit over priced for the portion. Personally, I would not had ordered any, not even the Winter salad (£6.50) that we ordered.
Dining at The Fir Room can be expensive depending on what you order. We went during the 50% off food offer and spent £16 per person (including drink and service charge).
