盛八日式燒肉店 Morihachi Yakiniku – TST

A friend recommended us to to try this place, which is a Japanese BBQ restaurant. I have been to Korean BBQ but never to a Japanese BBQ. However, after this experience I do not see much different.

Morihachi Yakiniku has 3 branches – Tsim Sha Tsui (TST), Mong Kok and Causeway Bay (CWB). Apart from the Mong Kok branch that we have not seen, both the TST and CWB branch are in location which are definitely not very eye catching. We went to the TST branch, which is on the 3rd Floor of the Ashley centre. There were waiters/waitress standing outside the building persuading us to go to the other restaurants that were also in Ashley centre.

Most of the tables were all reserved but we manage to get a table for 2 people. Although we were given a 2 hours to dine, so it must be a popular place?! We were taken to the bar table, which gave us a overall view of the restaurant. It was pretty dark but it had a great atmosphere.

This place mainly serve BBQ but there are rice and noodle to order. The menu consist of different varieties of meats/seafood to choose for BBQ. We went for beef rib, wagu beef and pork belly in miso sauce. To go with it we also ordered grilled rice ball and a lettuce platter. Just a few of items it was quite expensive and was not really filling that we went to Häagen-Dazs for dessert after.

We had a plate of sauces that are to dip your BBQ to bring out the different flavours of the meats or seafood. I remember seeing in the menu a diagram explaining about the sauces.

As with most Japanese places you get complimentary tea and that is exactly what we got, so we did not bother order any further drinks. The fun part with having BBQ in Hong Kong is that I get to cook it myself. Most places in London they cook for you, which I suppose will then come in the service charge.

This place is great to have a try or maybe for a special occasion for some party, as you can go for their party set menu. Although the cheapest price is HK $300 per person (which is expensive, although I did not get a detail look of what was included).
